Our SCBU offers specialized care for newborns who require extra support, including premature and low-birth-weight babies, in a safe and nurturing environment.

Contact us

The Special Care Baby Unit at Kuntau Specialist Hospital delivers care to premature infants, low birth-weight newborns, and term babies requiring specialised neonatal support. Our unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of experienced pediatricians, and nurses committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for every infant.

We provide comprehensive monitoring, including advanced incubators, continuous cardiorespiratory monitors, and respiratory support. Each baby receives individualised care tailored to their specific clinical needs in a controlled, infection-minimised environment.

Our SCBU specializes in the management of:

• Prematurity and very low birth weight

• Respiratory distress syndrome and other breathing difficulties

• Neonatal jaundice requiring phototherapy

• Suspected or confirmed neonatal sepsis

• Hypoglycemia and feeding challenges

• Perinatal asphyxia and neurological monitoring

• Other conditions requiring short- to medium-term specialised care

Parents are regarded as essential partners in their baby’s care. We actively encourage kangaroo mother care, support early breastfeeding where clinically appropriate, and maintain clear, regular communication with families. Our team provides compassionate guidance and emotional support throughout the infant’s stay, recognising the anxiety that often accompanies neonatal admission.

Every aspect of our SCBU is designed to promote physiological stability, growth, and neurodevelopmental protection while fostering a strong bond between parents and their newborn.

We remain dedicated to delivering high-quality, family-centered neonatal care to families across Kano State and beyond.
